Advocate for Sustainable Tourism

Authors:

Advocacy Workshop on Sustainable Tourism took place on September 29th, 2020, at Rogner Hotel Europa Park in Tirana. The workshop, organized by RisiAlbania and facilitated by Valbona Karakaçi, Bernd Steimann, and Adrien Rebord from Helvetas, aimed to empower tourism associations for more effective advocacy. The event brought together 12 representatives from National Tourism Associations.

Bernd Steimann started with a clear definition of advocacy and how to influence policies. Adrien Rebord shared two successful examples of advocacy that contributed to East and West sustainable tourism. A keynote presentation on Albania’s sustainable tourism, exploring opportunities and challenges from the perspective of the State, followed. The agenda featured a panel discussion with Mrs. Rovena Moçka, Director of Tourism at the Ministry, offering valuable insights and entry points for policy influence. The workshop also included advocacy tools sessions facilitated by Helvetas experts leading to a clear advocacy action plan for tourism operators.

The event’s primary goal was to equip participants with adequate tools for advocacy at the national level. Additionally, it marked the initiation of a series of advocacy actions dedicated to this topic.
