Strengthening the Voice of Citizens Through New Models of Collaboration in the Region
(Sarajevo, 31.10.2024) – The three-day forum, “Advocacy in a Changing Environment: Reshape Strategy and Respond to Challenges,” organized by the PRAGG Project and the Helvetas Regional Advocacy Network with the support of the Swiss Government, has concluded.
The forum brought together civil society organizations, institutions, the business sector, and media to enhance cooperation, enable more active advocacy, and encourage citizen participation in decision-making. Participants expressed concern over the shrinking space for civic engagement, emphasizing that the rule of law requires an active civil society operating in a safe and supportive environment.
“We are witnessing a reduction in public engagement space, where partnerships with a broader range of actors can protect the space for civic action. Our society and democracy can thrive only if citizens trust their institutions to be open and responsive to their needs,” stated Slaviša Prorok, PRAGG Project Manager.
The forum is part of the PRAGG project’s broader effort to improve opportunities for citizens across Bosnia and Herzegovina to take concrete steps that lead to real results through dialogue and partnerships.
“This was an exceptional opportunity to exchange knowledge, formulate concrete recommendations, and establish new partnerships that will strengthen civic dialogue and create a supportive environment for civil society in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region,” said Gorana Radovanović of Helvetas Serbia.
It was concluded that new models of collaboration between civil society, the private sector, media, and other partners should be explored both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and across the region. The goal of these efforts is to empower citizens, ensuring that every individual’s voice is heard.
“Regional cooperation in advocacy processes is crucial, as the reduction in civic space affects not only the civil sector but also the progressive private sector, including small and medium-sized enterprises,” stressed Shpend Emini from Helvetas Kosovo.
The PRAGG project is funded by the Swiss Government and implemented by the Helvetas and Niras consortium in cooperation with the Center for Civic Initiatives (CCI) and the Youth Development Institute Kult.
